Ken's Ongaku Go For September 2021!

The ever changing autumn season has started, that means a brand new Ongaku Go is here! We at OTY would like our readers to know what was filling our ears for the past month. Each track is available across all digital music streaming platforms, with Apple Music featured on this site.

“September” by haruno

While a sightly older song in his discography, “September” really brings that transitional feel of the seasons with slow and minimal compositions that really relies on his beautiful vocals. Not really changing the wheel so to speak on what I usually listen to, I can really appreciate it that an artist tries to sing entire songs in a totally differently language and become a so-called hidden gem from other releases. While I was originally recommended this track on social media over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been drawn to other releases such as “Kidding Me” off of his Is She Anybody? EP and his latest release “Love Affair” back in August. While I absolutely love those tracks, “September” is the one I keep going back to in my rotation.

“Yoru no Tanken” by childspot

Hot off their Ingredients album that released this month, childspot is that R&B fusion band that really hit a bone with me this past month. Vocalist and guitarist hiyune really hits that vocal sweet spot so-to-speak on how to handle the difficult fusion genre and can be shown upon their small discography. While it does have a somewha simple band composition behind it, the power added work really does rest on hiyune and knock it out of the park with this track and had kept falling in love with it upon every listen. While I have yet to listen to the entirety of Ingredients, I can’t wait to dive into them formally soon enough.

“Summer haze” by Atarayo

I’ve been honestly looking for a fresh band to get into as of late, and sure enough the four-member duo-vocal rock band Atarayo reared into my life. While this isn’t the first release that exposed me to them, “Summer haze” is by far one of their best. What really does it for me is the piano interlude in the beginning of the track and sprinkled throughout, as it really sets the mood of the work and really brings the listeners on a magic trip that Atarayo is trying to convey. They are a future Music Corner in the making and I can’t wait till they release their first album.

“Baka Mitai” by Taiga Saejima and Shun Akiyama

While this isn’t the first time this song has appeared on my Ongaku Go, I had to include it as it is the unofficial celebration of the Yakuza game series with Yaktember. Originally made famous by Kiryu Kazuma’s rendition of the song, as the series had progressed the other burly and rough protagonist of the the game series would also take their shot at this track as well. I ironically love this rendition as it is a duet style of cover for a song that is usually just sung solo and the trade off that both characters does for this vocally is great and while can’t break the top spot of Kiryu’s version, it is a close second. I do like the Namba cover in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, I can’t wait what the game series has in store of fans of this track and if the main protagonist Kasuga Ichiban will take the mantel next.

“Snow halation” by Muse (Love Live)

Now if you were to tell me that I’d be including a Love Live song in my Ongaku Go sometime this year I’d call you crazy. As I do appreciate the series and understand its appeal, BanG Dream!! brought in more to the new crazy that was Seiyu idol singers. Playing the Love Live! All Stars and being exposed to hololive (with them low-key drilling the song in my head with its constant inclusion of their karaoke streams) has really brought me into really liking the track and keeping it in my rotation and also singing it in karaoke situations whenever I can. While the song overall is a fairly traditional winter track, I can’t give it high enough praise.
